FAQ
Why photojournalism?
We believe that photojournalism is the purest form of storytelling. This approach allows us to anticipate and capture the most inspiring moments from your wedding day to create a collection of images that you and your family will adore for years to come. Although we offer occasional suggestions, we do not stage portions of the day and we do not want to call attention to ourselves during important moments.
Do you take posed family photographs?
Yes. We believe these images are essential for archival reasons. We ask that you think carefully and talk with us about which group photographs are important to your family, as long lists are time consuming and will keep you away from your event. We will send you a questionnaire which asks about these groupings (as well as other details) so that we can have a specific list at least two weeks prior to your event. Most of our clients find that 6-10 posed groups will accommodate their needs, but each family is different.
Do you take posed portraits of the bride and groom?
Yes. We politely request that you allocate 35 minutes in which we can capture beautiful, relaxed images of the two of you, alone. We really just want you to interact as naturally as possible in a relevant setting, and we won’t ask you to lie on the ground or strike any ridiculous, uncomfortable poses. Having a minimum of 35 minutes allows us to create the stunning photographs you see in our portfolio. We encourage you to talk with us about your timeline so that we can achieve the best possible results! If you would like more portrait time, we’re happy to spend as much time with you as you’d like!
Do you take non-wedding family portraits?
We are very busy with wedding photography work but each year we accept a limited number of commissions for extraordinary portraits of families and children. Please contact us for specific information and to hear more about our unique approach to photography for your family, or visit our portrait site.
Who will photograph my event?
Jennifer is the co-owner of egomedia photography and will be the lead photographer at your event. Either Sam or Sarah will assist Jennifer at your event.
Do you post-process my images?
Yes. Sam is the co-owner and computer guru. We individually process each wedding image we deliver to our clients. We don’t believe in batch actions or outsourcing. We care a great deal about the photographs that you and your family will be looking at for generations – we spend a lot of time to make them the very best that they can be. Usually our post-processing takes 6-8 weeks to complete. This type of processing is very different from what most other photographers offer. It’s well worth it!
Will I receive the digital negatives?
Yes. You and your friends and family will have access to the high resolution images online where they can be downloaded at no additional cost. We would be happy to talk with you in more detail about how we make this simple and convenient. We feel that unfettered access to the images for you and your family and friends is essential, and we refuse to use sites such as Pictage and the like where you’re asked to sign up for annoying emails in order to access images.
How does the album process work?
Once your images are completed, we will send you a questionnaire where you can detail your album preferences. You will have a chance to specify which type of album you would like us to create as well as provide us with a list of your favorite images. We will create a preliminary design based on your responses and you will have an opportunity to view it and make changes before we send the album to be printed. Album prices are locked in for the design process for up to 180 days after you receive your completed images.
Where is egomedia photography based?
We have two offices for our clients’ convenience! One is located in downtown Washington, DC and the other is in Annapolis, Maryland. We travel for destination weddings nationally and internationally at our clients’ request. Travel costs will be included in your customized destination coverage quote. We handle all of our own travel arrangements.
How do I request information more about your rates?
If you are interested in working with us, please contact us with additional details about your wedding plans and we will get back to you with our availability and rates! We won’t spam you – we’ll just send out the information that you request.
What is required to book egomedia photography for my wedding?
We require a signed contract with a non-refundable $1,500 retainer which officially books your date. The balance for your event is due 30 days prior to your wedding. We can not hold your date without a retainer and a signed contract.
I went to a wedding where this really, really obnoxious photographer…
Yes, we know. We’ve heard the horror stories too. Our goal at your wedding is to create stunning images while being as courteous and unobtrusive as possible. We go to great lengths to blend in and capture uninterrupted moments. We are real live full time photographers, not salespeople. This is not a hobby or a part-time job for us, and we take the happiness of our clients very seriously.
Why don’t you have music on your site?
Because we don’t want you to get busted perusing our site for hours while you’re at work!
